Twitter has been categorised as "news" application by whatsapp rather than a social media application.
Findings show that Twitter is used less while keeping in touch with people and is mostly used for transmitting events and developments rather than communicating with people. Twitter growth has registered a decline recently.
This is shown by Twitter Moments, which shows current news feed. Most people prefer to use Facebook for communicating with others. They prefer Twitter les for this purpose. Hence, Twitter's categorisation as news app seems apt.
Twitter's limitation of 140 characters makes it a restricted platform for keeping in touch, while Facebook gives a lot more space and allows attachments of many more images than Twitter. This is another restriction on Twitter's use as a social media platform.
Twitter's shares fell sharply about 12% after it missed the first quarter revenue estimates this week.
The company reported $595 million revenue in the first quarter ending March 31. It was up 36% from $435.9 million in the same quarter last year but missed the $607.9 million expected on average among analysts.
Twitter posted a net loss of $79.7 million compared with a year-earlier loss of $162.4 million.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said that “we remain focused on improving our service to make it fast, simple and easy to use”.
Twitter has predicted revenue for the second quarter between $590 million and $610 million -- much lower than the $678 million analysts expected.
“Revenue came in at the low end of our guidance range, as brand marketers did not increase spend as quickly as expected in Q1,” the company tweeted.
