Some phones are known for their cameras, some for their price, and some for their design. The Gionee Elife S5.1 is known for its slim and sexy looks. Gionee’s S series is known for its style quotient and the S5.1 takes it to a new level altogether.
Succeeding the Elife S5.5, the Gionee S5.1 is just 5.15mm thick with a lot of stuff inside the package. In addition to the usual stuff like AC adapter, data cable and in-ear headphones, Gionee has bundled a couple of screen protectors, a free transparent TPU case, a SIM ejector tool and a free USB-OTG cable. No one else really bother to pack in so many goodies.
Talking about the Gionee S5.1, it weighs less than 100 grams (97g to be exact) and that’s extremely light for a smartphone these days. Both the front and back of S5.1 is made of glass and covered with Corning Gorilla glass protection. The side is made of metal with chamfered edges, which gives it an iPhone 4S like looks. The edges are more curved like the iPhone 6.
A 5.15mm chassis houses a 2050mAh battery, an octal-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The 4.8-inch AMOLED screen has just HD (720p) resolution, but you’ll be hard pressed to notice any pixels on that vibrant and sharp display.
The first impressions are majorly positive. The Elife S5.1 will inevitably increase your style quotient by leaps and bounds thanks to its slim chassis and beautiful design. The display is sharp and vibrant, and Amigo UI is colorful and pleasing to the eyes. The challenge however is how well the Mediatek octa-core processor with 1GB of RAM performs and how the 2050mAh battery holds up the juice.
