IT dealers in Dehradun recently got a platform to discuss their issues with the distributors and vendors in the region, at the recently held The DQ Week Tech Caravan in the city's Ajanta Continental hotel in association with Uttaranchal IT Traders Association (UITTA), which is the apex body of Dehradun computer traders.
UITTA partners located in the city's IT hub Capri IT market turned up in droves to discuss the challenges facing them and also to interact with vendors looking at offering newer solutions in the market.
The evening saw the participation of more than 80 channel partners and local representatives of distributors and vendors in Dehradun. Rohit Bajaj, territory manager of Western UP and Uttarakhand, Norton talked about consumer security products and also launched surprise schemes for the present partners at the venue, while Guneet Singh of Portronics presented a plethora of interesting products like portable projectors, scanners and even smart TV converters. Uniline UPS showed its USP while the highlight of the event was the panel discussion, which was moderated by Vikas Dewan, secretary of UIITA and director of Strategic Marketing. Dewan touched upon various issues including credit issue, market operating price (MOP) and defaulter issue.
Speaking on the same, Dewan praised the current team of the association in resolving the major fraud case of the city. Reacting on the same Naresh Batra of Shivay Technologies said, "The partners of Dehradun should start sharing start up company's information among the association members, as this can avoid the occurrence of episode like Patanjali."
Vendors like HP and Acer representatives discussed on issues like credit and check bouncing cases. Majority of the participants were in favor of discontinuation of credit for resellers and retailers and moving to cash business. They also suggested that credit should be given in the case of corporate deals.
Another burning issue that dealers brought to the notice of the distributors revolved around MRP. Talking about the same Balbir Rathore, president, UITTA reiterated, "On numerous occasions the MRP is lesser than the dealer prices which creates an imbalance in the market and puts the dealer in an awkward situation before their customers."
Batra said, "This problem originates as a result of the pressure from the vendors and the matter has to be taken seriously, so that uniform pricing can prevail in the market."
Another problem that surfaced was that the local market is affected is some channel partner masquerading as a vendor by importing few products and subsequently doing a vanishing trick.
The Dehradun Tech Caravan was held in association with Norton, Portronics and Uniline as sponsors.
