Kaspersky Lab has unveiled the latest version of Kaspersky Internet Security for Mac. Thanks to the product’s new Private Browsing and Webcam Protection technologies designed to protect privacy and confidential information, users can be assured of their security and even save money when making purchases online.
Whenever a user starts surfing the web, thousands of bots are tracking his every move and sending information to interested parties: the sites he visits, the search queries he enters, his location and the devices used. Private Browsing prevents websites and web applications from collecting this information. The technology literally cuts out this type of personal information from the Internet traffic, ensuring that it never leaves the device. This is what makes Kaspersky Lab’s Private Browsing fundamentally different from similar browser-based tools.
Even if a user feels he has nothing to hide, there are downsides to this constant online "surveillance" that are directly linked to financial costs. For example, online prices for various goods and services can vary depending on the location of the user and his device, as well as the history of visits to those goods and services.
There are also numerous examples of webcams being used to spy on users and even for extortion (in this case, a type of extortion where criminals demand a ransom for intimate photos taken with a web camera). The Webcam Protection technology keeps the user informed of any processes that are trying to connect to the webcam. The advantage of this technology is that even if a malicious process switches off the camera’s indicator light to hide its activity, this won’t prevent the product from noticing the webcam is working or from blocking access to it at the user’s request.
"There’s still a belief among users that Apple computers are less exposed to cyber threats, and therefore don’t require additional protection. Unfortunately, that is not true. Many cyber threats – such as phishing, a poorly protected connection, a lack of user cyber-savviness and other weak points – in fact make it possible for cybercriminals to harm users on almost any device, whether it is Windows, Mac, Android, or an iPhone. That’s why in our new security solution for OS X we have paid special attention to technologies that secure user privacy online – including Webcam Protection and Private Browsing,” says Nikita Shvetsov, CTO at Kaspersky Lab.
According, to Altaf Halde, Managing Director - South Asia, Kaspersky Lab, "The adoption of Mac machines is increasing in the country. Similarly, the unique Apple OS X malware count is increasing at a fast pace. With the launch of our new Kaspersky Internet Security for MAC, our users have the assurance of their security being protected against the threats they face in this world of computing."
