The India A4 printer market comprising of Inkjet, DMP and Laser printers registered an 8% sequential decline in 1Q CY2015 over 4Q CY 2015. The market grew marginally by 2% on a year-on-year basis in 1Q CY2015. This was revealed in CMR’s India Monthly A4 Printer Market Review. HP remained market leader with a 48% share in terms of unit shipments in 1Q CY2015. The vendor witnessed an 8% sequential decline in shipments in 1Q CY2015 vis-à-vis 4Q CY2014. Epson was placed at number 2 spot, followed by Canon.
Samsung, witnessing a continuous decline in shipments since 1Q CY2014, turned around and recorded a 58% quarter-on-quarter growth in 1Q CY2015; Ricoh maintained shipments at the same level as the previous quarter. “Traditionally the first quarter of a calendar year has an edge on the previous quarter’s shipments; however, this year the trend was reversed due to slow business by HP and Canon. In the Inkjet Single Function Printer category, both vendors witnessed shortage of product supply” said, Narinder Kumar, Analyst, Infotech and Channels Research Practices, CyberMedia Research.
“Upward price revision by HP in January 2015 affected the vendor’s business, especially in the Laser Single Function Printer category, which was another major reason for decline of the overall India A4 Printer market in 1Q CY2015.”
HP inkjet multifunction printer, Deskjet 1510 was the leading model in the India A4 printer market during 1Q CY2015, with a 10% share in terms of unit shipments followed by HP LaserJet multifunction printer model, M1005. The Canon LB2900B and Epson L210 were other leading printer models shipped in 1Q CY2015.
