Xiaomi is all set to start manufacturing its handsets in India, from August expectedly. Foxconn is contracted for the manufacturing of the smartphones for Xiaomi.
A close source from Foxconn’s new plant in Sri City said that, from the beginning of last month, the company has started shifting its machinery from its Chennai plant to the new plant. The relocating process is at the last phase and the production can start by August, the official said.
Sri City is a SEZ located 55 kilometres from Chennai towards its north and currently houses 107 companies from 27 countries and includes 45 MNCs.
Due to Nokia’s exit in November last year, the Chennai plant had to be shut down in February. The manufacturing unit is, however, not so large and is just 20,000 sq. ft. in area, as disclosed by the official.
Xioami, which at present is valued at $45 billion, has already started its manufacturing in Brazil, the Chinese smartphone maker’s next big market after India.
