The invigorating festival of Diwali has cheered up many partners across India of promising sales but surprisingly the festive season has turned out to be a damp squib for Jodhpur.
Sanjeev Mogra, secretary, Jodhpur Computer Dealers Association (JCDA) said that the dealers are still facing the heat of the downturn as the city has witnessed depressing sales.
He cites reasons such as low margin and convergence of technologies, for the downfall.
He adds, "There are very less margins, less footfalls to buy products. This would be the worst Diwali sales ever. Earlier, every year we used to get advance orders but this time it has been very few."
According to him, it is the result of converged technologies, such as the availability of smart phones. He mentions that the buyers, especially youths, have managed to get the utilities on their smart phone for which earlier they used to buy laptops.
He said, "E-mails, games and simple features are there on smart phones and majority of our customers have moved towards it. We have to bring in new ideas to tackle this issue."
He also mentioned that the partners are not even ready to meet and discuss on these issues. Therefore, he added, the association is planning for a get-together to bring in new ideas.
