The Business Intelligence Group today awarded Belkin, Sustainability Initiative of the Year in the 2018 Sustainability Awards program. The Sustainability Awards honour those people, teams and organizations who have made sustainability an integral part of their practice or overall mission.
In a mission to expand environmental stewardship, Belkin set a goal in 2009 to reduce 25 per cent of worldwide electricity consumption by 2017. Currently, Belkin has met and exceeded their goal, achieving 37 per cent reduction in worldwide electricity consumption. Belkin’s reduction in worldwide electricity use was due to efficiency upgrades in facilities, including the installation of solar panels, the establishment of EV charging stations in company parking lots, installation of motion sensor lighting in Belkin offices and distribution centres. Overall, the company has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 25 per cent since 2009.
“We recognize that our operations and services impact the environment. We are fundamentally driven to take as many measures as we can to reduce our impact,” said Ernie Roberts, sustainability manager for the Belkin division. “We are honoured to be recognized by the Business Intelligence Group for our efforts and it inspires us to continue surpassing the goals we set to reduce our carbon footprint.”
“We are proud to reward and recognize Belkin for their sustainability efforts,” said Maria Jimenez, Chief Nominations Officer, Business Intelligence Group. “It was clear to our judges that their vision and strategy will continue to deliver results toward a cleaner, more sustainable world. Congratulations Belkin!”
