In the growing threat from e-tailors, different IT vendors have taken different measures to safeguard its traditional partners running brick-and-mortar shop. The latest to join the bandwagon is Samsung India which recently circulated that some online companies are not their authorized partners.
In the notice, Samsung India said, "The following online stores namely, Snapdeal, Amazon India and eBay are not authorized resellers of Samsung printers and cartridges, etc. Customers may also note that these online stores are not authorized to make any representation of sale Samsung products and Samsung may not be bound to honor representations, benefits or entitlements offered by these online stores."
However, it seemed a bit surprising when Flipkart's name found no mention. Also, the notice is just for printers.
The channel partners felt that this is not a proper way to tackle the online issues. Kailash Gupta commented on a social media post showing the notice: "Most of online sites are working on Mercantile model and are subsidizing costs to consumers! Mere declaring these sites as not authorized will not help. What is required is disclaimers in all consumer ads about stern warranty and authenticity measures and a check on MOP at these sites"
Gupta also mentioned that the state governments can play a big role by imposing entry tax and VAT collections on all material coming in the state.
He also felt that all companies, vendors should come forward and issue such notifications in public and in all their media campaigns and advertisements, according to the post.
